Spirituality is about what makes that person who they are and what matters to them, regardless of religion, faith, beliefs and non-faiths.
Due to the retirement of the previous post-holder, we are seeking to appoint a Spiritual Care Specialist to join us at Rowcroft Hospice in Torquay, in an exciting opportunity to lead on and develop further a newly developed model of Spiritual Care support. As an integral member of the multi-professional team, your key role will be to promote and provide seamless high-quality pastoral, spiritual and religious care to patients, carers, staff and volunteers.
The ideal candidate will be either Ordained by an appropriate religious authority with considerable pastoral experience and ideally some previous experience of chaplaincy, or a non-ordained individual educated to degree level with on-going evidence of understanding, training and education in the relevant subjects (e.g. religious studies/theology). An understanding of world faiths and other belief systems particularly regarding belief and practices around illness, death and dying is essential.
The post holder will be required to establish and lead a group of dedicated, enthusiastic, Spiritual Care Champions made up of staff, volunteers, local Chaplains, other faith leader/ spiritual care advisors, and work with staff to develop their confidence in providing Spiritual Care support to patients, carers and their families. The hospice has good existing relationships with local religious groups and spiritual care teams from other local healthcare organisations, and the post holder will have the opportunity to develop these relationships further, providing enhanced links between the hospice and all local faith groups. This is a part time/flexible position; the post is funded for 15 hours per week with consideration given to the adjustment of these hours up to 22.5 hours for the right candidate.
