Rowcroft Hospice, Torquay (www.rowcrofthospice.org.uk) is an independent charity providing outstanding specialist Palliative and End of Life Care across 300 sq. miles of South Devon & Torbay. Multi-disciplinary specialist teams of nurses, doctors, social workers and therapists are dedicated to making every day the best it can be for all patients, and their families, living with life limiting illnesses. Delivering specialist Palliative and End of Life care is underpinned by a unique sense of place, purpose and respect across its portfolio of activities. Its proposition is person centred care at its core. It is a well-established and highly respected local charity providing care to over 2,000 patients and their families per annum.

Rowcroft seeks a dynamic Head of HR & OD to proactively lead and manage its people agenda and volunteering activities to meet the changing needs of the Hospice. It is a complex model embracing the cultures of Health, Social, 3rd and Commercial sectors. The role, as a member of the Senior Management Team, is to shape, fashion and fulfil the strategy and direction of the organisation, its people and volunteer cadre, ensuring that Rowcroft’s services develop within a safe and effective environment. The remit is wide and encompassing, one that involves strategic, tactical and operational responsibility to drive forward key projects. The successful individual must thrive in an arena of complexity and transformation across multiple locations and with over 200 staff; and will lead and deliver O/D, talent and L&D, employee relations, health & well-being, and volunteering & community issues (establishing Rowcroft’s reputation as an employer of choice).

The requirement is to engage and empower all stakeholders, whilst maintaining good relations and deliver a transparent and positive well-being culture across staff, volunteers and management alike. The responsibility is to be the HR Lead, providing expert advice to the Board of Trustees, Senior Management Team and all managers/staff in the spirit of continuous business improvement within a scenario of change (evolution), growth, new income opportunities and altering partner relationships.
