Seafood company makes generous commitment to Rowcroft Hospice

Paignton’s Blue Sea Food Company has generously committed to making a £1000 donation to Rowcroft Hospice every month for the foreseeable future in order to help secure vital care for people living with life-limiting illnesses in South Devon.

The local company, which supplies fresh Devon crab, made the commitment after attending the hospice’s Securing the Future event in June.

The event aimed to update local supporters and fundraisers on Rowcroft’s financial situation and future aims, following its funding shortfall in 2016.

David Markham, The Blue Sea Food Company’s Sales Director, explained: “The whole team at The Blue Sea Food Company are delighted to be in a position to make regular donations to Rowcroft.

“Many people in our organisation have had the need for hospice care for a family member. The care offered by Rowcroft during some of the most traumatic and sad times of our lives has been both humbling and uplifting.”

He added: “All we look for during the last moments of our lives is some dignity and love, and hospice care could not do more to provide this. Being able to contribute to this astonishing organisation is a privilege.”

Rowcroft has been at the heart of the South Devon community for over 35 years, supporting local people with life-limiting illnesses, and their families, to make every day the best it can possibly be.

Last year the hospice faced significant financial challenges due to a growth in demand, increased costs and an unpredicted fall in legacy income.

Through substantial cost savings, service redesign and the success of an urgent fundraising appeal, Rowcroft’s services were saved from closure.

Rowcroft Hospice’s Chief Executive, Mark Hawkins, explained: “Following the financial challenges we faced last year, our efforts are now focussed on securing the future of hospice care for generations to come.

“We are committed to increasing our existing levels of fundraised income and would like to thank The Blue Sea Food Company for the incredible difference their generous monthly donation will make to our efforts.

“Once our levels of fundraised income have been increased, we can begin to rebuild a hospice service that meets all of the local community’s wishes.”

Rowcroft is planning to hold an additional Securing the Future event in October, updating those who attend on the hospice’s plans for the future. To register your interest in attending, email info@rowcrofthospice.org.uk.
