We are delighted to be working with Newton Abbot College on Ride for Rowcroft 2019 and the event village, including all administrative stalls and the start/finish line, will be located at the facilities on Old Exeter Road (TQ12 2NF).
Parking at the Newton Abbot College site is extremely limited, so we recommend utilising the on-road parking around the site, or arranging to be dropped off at the designated drop-zone where possible. We are hopeful that additional parking will be made available, so please keep an eye on our social media channels and website for further updates.
Please ensure you arrive at the college site for 7.30am, as the cycle challenge will begin at 8.30am and we need to ensure that everyone is in place, appropriately briefed and ready to ride!
All participants must bring their own bike, fitted with front and rear lights, and a helmet. Participants who arrive without a helmet or fitted lights will not be able to take part in the event.
All participants should wear comfortable clothing/cycle-wear and either cycling shoes or sensible, flat shoes. It is advisable to bring a waterproof layer and avoid loose fitting clothing.
You will have until 1pm to complete the route, allowing four and a half hours. We expect participants cycling at an average speed to have completed the route within two hours.
This year we are using Strava to track ride times.
To time yourself and get access to the routes in more detail you can join the club ‘Ride for Rowcroft’ www.strava.com/clubs/540938
If you haven’t already, you will need to create a Strava account; you can do this at www.strava.com or download the app straight to your phone.
It’s really easy to set up simply follow the instructions below:
- Download the Strava app to your phone and set up an account if you do not have one already.
- In the top left-hand corner, there is a menu dropdown- select ‘clubs’
- Search for ‘Ride for Rowcroft’ and click to join.
- From here you can select to join the route you have registered for.
- On the day click- ‘view the route’ and in the bottom right corner ‘use this route’ make sure this is set before you start the ride.
For any help with Strava please see
The route is a combination of tarmacked roads and flat, surfaced cycle paths with only gentle inclines and descents. Riders MUST be confident cycling on roads with traffic.
A mobile mechanic will be available and able to respond to anyone with technical problems. All participants will be provided with a telephone number prior to the event that can be used to contact the mobile mechanic. We will also have a team available to collect anyone who is unable to complete the course.
There will be designated water and toilet stops on the route.
Supporters can watch along the route but unfortunately will not be able to access the College site, which is for participants only. This is due to limited space and parking.
