The Colour Rush raises thousands for Rowcroft Hospice
14 September 2014
Rowcroft Hospice’s paint-fuelled event, The Colour Rush, transformed Paignton Beach into a sea of colour yesterday, and raised thousands of pounds for the hospice.
Over 1500 people took part in South Devon’s brightest 5k, together pledging to raise a massive £62,808 for Rowcroft, smashing the hospice’s £50,000 fundraising target.
Charlotte Molyneux, who took part in the event, said: “The run along the beach was amazing, and so was the atmosphere! It was great to see so many people coming together to support Rowcroft in such a colourful way!”
The Colour Rush required participants to complete two loops of a 2.5k route around Paignton and Preston Beaches, while being caked in one and a half tonnes of powder paint.
On completion of the 5k route, participants were invited to take part in a mass paint throw, which saw 1500 people showering each other in purple, orange and blue, the colours of Rowcroft’s logo.
Jess Goodwin, Events Co-ordinator for Rowcroft Hospice, said: “We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who supported this crazy event! It was incredible to see so many people come together to support Rowcroft Hospice, and even more incredible to see them all transformed into human rainbows!
“We’d also like to say a huge thank you to all those who sponsored our Colour Rush participants, every penny you donated will go towards funding the vital care we provide for more than 1800 people across South Devon every year. Over 70% of our funding comes from the local community, so we are so grateful for all your support!”
The £62,808 figure includes money pledged by participants, and sponsorship money already paid in to the hospice.
The Colour Rush will be back on the shores of South Devon next year. If you’d like to receive priority information about the event you can sign up for Rowcroft’s Colour Rush enews by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Alternatively, you can visit www.thecolourrush.co.uk for more information.
