South Devon’s brightest 5k set to return to Paignton Beach this summer

15 April 2015

Rowcroft Hospice’s sell out event The Colour Rush is set to return to Paignton Beach on Saturday 12 September.

Dubbed South Devon’s brightest 5k, The Colour Rush invites people to complete a five kilometre route along Paignton and Preston beaches while being showered with multi-coloured powder paint.

Registration is open until 31 May for the colour-crazy event, and all those who sign up before then using code COLOUR15 will receive an exclusive discount, securing their place for £20, instead of the usual £25 full ticket price.

Jess Goodwin, Events Co-ordinator at Rowcroft Hospice, explained: “The Colour Rush 2015 is open to all men, women and children over 13-years-old no matter what your fitness level; it’s about celebrating your local community and hospice, not about crossing the finishing line first. However, it’s also an amazing opportunity to see your friends, family and colleagues caked in multi-coloured powder paint!”

This year the hospice is releasing 2000 places for the event, and all those who register will receive a free bag of paint and a medal for completing the brightest 5k of their lives.

Jess added: “Once they’ve completed the 5k, participants will be invited to take part in the hospice’s legendary mass paint throw, which with hundreds of people and thousands of bags of paint is going to get a little…colourful!”

Organisers are also keen to urge those who take part to raise as much money in sponsorship as possible, in order to support the vital services Rowcroft provides for thousands of people across South Devon every year.

Polly Pooler, Deputy Inpatient Unit Manager at the hospice said: “More than 70% of our funding comes from the local community so we rely heavily on people taking part in our crazy events to raise as much money as they can. We are extremely grateful for every penny you raise!”

This year’s event will kick off on Paignton Esplanade at 1pm with music from Heart FM, a marquee and food and drinks stalls.

Charlie Calver, who took part in The Colour Rush 2014 said she is excited about the 2015 event: “We had such a brilliant time at The Colour Rush last year, I can’t wait to sign up for this year’s event. Running along the beach with friends was so much fun, and it was a great opportunity to raise money to support the hospice and the care they provide for the people of South Devon.”

Organisers are expecting places to fill quickly so register today at using the code COLOUR15 to claim your early bird discount and guarantee your place.
