Sleep Walkers raise record-breaking £193,500 for Rowcroft
22 December 2015
Ladies who took part in Rowcroft’s Wild West-themed Sleep Walk earlier this year have raised a record-breaking amount for Rowcroft Hospice.
More than 2,000 ladies aged ten and over completed their choice of five or ten mile night walks in July, raising an incredible £193,500 to help support people with life-limiting illnesses in South Devon, and their families, to make the most of every day they have together.
Rowcroft’s Events Manager, Daniel Robson, said: “We are overwhelmed by the huge amount of support we have received from the local community in order to raise this incredible amount of money.
“We would like to say a massive thank you to all the amazing ladies who took part, our fantastic volunteers and also the many, many more people who have supported our participants by sponsoring them.
“Every penny raised will help us to make every day the best day possible for local families facing the most challenging days of their lives.”
Since the Sleep Walk began five years ago the hugely popular event has raised an incredible £863,252.
Organisers now hope the 2016 event, which opens for registration in January, will boost the overall Sleep Walk fundraising total to a massive £1 million.
Rowcroft’s Inpatient Unit Manager, Sue Harvey, said: “Every year we are amazed by how many people come together to support us by taking part in The Sleep Walk.
“We are so grateful for their support; the majority of our funding comes from the local community so without the incredible efforts of our supporters we would not be able to support the thousands of people across South Devon who need our help every year.”
Details about The Sleep Walk 2016, including the date of the event and the hotly anticipated theme, are due to be announced prior to registration opening on Wednesday 20 January.
Daniel added: “We would urge all those wanting to take part in The Sleep Walk 2016 to keep an eye on Barbara the Sheep’s Facebook page, and our website, for some important information coming soon.
“We would also recommend they register for their place as soon as possible to avoid disappointment, as for the last two years this event has sold out in record time.
“We don’t want anyone to miss out on South Devon’s biggest girls’ night out!”
