Set sail for Rowcroft's swashbuckling Sleep Walk 2017

02 December 2016

Rowcroft Hospice has announced its massively popular ladies-only night walk, The Rowcroft Sleep Walk, will be held on Saturday 8 July 2017 and is taking on a swashbuckling pirate theme.

The hospice recently made the announcement on its social media channels and has received a fantastic response.

Kim Griffith commented on Sleep Walk mascot Barbara the Sheep’s Facebook post ‘Yo ho ho hurrah!’ while Sam Rodgers said ‘Oh my god…this is going to be fantastic!’

Registration for the night walk, which invites more than 2,000 ladies to complete their choice of five or ten mile routes beginning at sun-down, will open on Wednesday 18 January.

Events Manager Daniel Robson said: “Well blow me down; we can’t believe what a fantastic response our announcement about the swashbuckling Sleep Walk 2017 has had!

”Every year The Rowcroft Sleep Walk brings thousands of ladies from across South Devon together to support local families living with life-limiting illnesses in South Devon; if the response to our theme and date announcement is anything it go by, it looks like 2017 will be no exception!”

In 2016, the fabulous Sleep Walk ladies managed to raise an incredible £195,000 – taking the all-time Rowcroft Sleep Walk fundraising total to more than £1,000,000.

Next year the hospice hopes the popular event will raise in excess of £200,000, as it continues to ask for support following a drastic funding shortfall.

Daniel explained: “The fundraising efforts our Sleep Walkers have gone to in recent years has been amazing, the £1,000,000 total has paid for care to be provided to thousands of local people – your friends, neighbours and loved ones – as they and their families have faced the most difficult and challenging days of their lives.

“We now ask that all those interested in signing up keep an eye on our Facebook page and Sleep Walk website for more exciting announcements about next year’s event - and put Wednesday 18 January in their diaries to register as soon as possible!

“Never has fundraising for Rowcroft been more vital than it is now, so we would like to say thank you in advance to all those who sign up to take part and support The Rowcroft Sleep Walk 2017.”

From the New Year, Rowcroft will also be looking for volunteers to help with the event.

Daniel added: “Our incredible volunteers play a vital role in our events and their generously donated time, efforts and expertise are hugely appreciated by Rowcroft and the ladies taking part in The Rowcroft Sleep Walk.

“For more information about the roles available for volunteers in 2017, visit our website or email events@rowcroft-hospice.org.uk.”
