Runners complete London Marathon for Rowcroft

10 May 2016

Runners from across South Devon have completed the London Marathon in aid of Rowcroft Hospice.

Dan Ritson from Brixham, Michelle Perring and Jade Rogers from Newton Abbot, Robert Ledger from Totnes and two others all completed the legendary 26.2mile route, which took place on Sunday 24th April.

Together, the six have raised an incredible £6,577.97 for the hospice, helping to support thousands of local people and families living with life-limiting illnesses.

Dan Ritson, who won Rowcroft’s own ballot in 2015 to gain a place in the 2016 marathon, said: “I wanted to give something back to Rowcroft for everything they have done for me and my family.

“I genuinely feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to take part in such an amazing event for such an amazing charity.”

Michelle Perring added: “Running the London Marathon has been on my bucket list since I started running in 2012.

“Losing every Sunday to training was hard but I got into a good routine, which I enjoyed.

“I chose to raise funds for Rowcroft because family members of mine have used their services and because it is a local charity so I have that personal connection.”

Rowcroft supported each of the runners with their fundraising efforts and is delighted they were able to complete the legendary route.

Community Fundraising Manager at Rowcroft, Hayley Norrish, said: “More than 70% of our funding comes from the local community so we are extremely grateful to our six marathon runners for taking on this amazing challenge and raising vital funds to help support people in South Devon who are living with life-limiting illnesses.

“We are so grateful to them for taking on their gruelling training regimes and raising money for Rowcroft, we hope they are now enjoying some well-earned rest.”

The hospice has a portfolio of challenge events available for extreme fundraisers, including skydive days, mountain treks and cycle rides across countries – and continents.

Hayley explained: “We know that many fundraisers are looking to take on activities that push their physical, mental and fundraising efforts to the limits!

“For those people we have a number of unique challenges available, including a bike ride from the Grand Canyon to Las Vegas or a trek up Ben Nevis.

“We are holding an open evening about all our challenge events at Rowcroft Hospice in June, if you’d like to attend, or find out more, please email hayley.norrish@rowcroft-hospice.org.uk.”
