Rowcroft’s re-located Brixham shop raises £100,000 for hospice in first year of trading

12 December 2016

Rowcroft’s re-located Brixham shop celebrated its first birthday last week.

The shop, which re-located from Union Lane to Fore Street in December last year, has generated £100,000 since opening.

Caroline Wannell, Head of Retail at Rowcroft Hospice, said: “We are delighted that our re-located Brixham shop has been able to generate such a significant income to support local families living with life-limiting illnesses to share precious time together.”

The new shop, a converted bank, is three times the size of Rowcroft’s previous premises in the town.

Shop Manager, Patricia Cossey, said the new space has enabled her to display much more of the shop’s good quality, second hand stock.

She explained: “Since the move we have gained a lot more space and can now stock a range of different items including some furniture and electricals, as well as men’s and women’s clothing, accessories and bric-a-brac.

“Both locals and holiday makers have said they really like the shop, it’s been a really positive year, I’ve really enjoyed it and the feedback from customers has been great.”

Staff and volunteers are thrilled with the total, which together with Rowcroft’s other shops and fundraising activities has helped to fund care for 100 patients living with life-limiting illnesses in Brixham in the last year, as well as 33 of their family members.

Caroline said: “We are incredibly grateful to the Brixham community for supporting the re-location of our shop and in doing so helping to care for local families facing the most challenging days of their lives.”

The hospice is especially grateful for the support as it continues to regain financial stability following the announcement it was facing a drastic funding shortfall.

Caroline added: “Now more than ever we are so grateful to all those who have purchased items from, or donated them to our shops. Every pound makes a huge difference and will help to secure Rowcroft’s care in Brixham, and South Devon, for many more years to come.”

Rowcroft has 15 shops across South Devon, including Furniture Outlets in Paignton, Torquay and Newton Abbot, a coffee shop in Ashburton and tea room in Churston.
