Rowcroft Sleep Walkers pledge £167,000 for the Hospice

31 July 2014

Over 2000 ladies from across South Devon have pledged to raise £167,000 for Rowcroft after taking part in the Hospice’s biggest Sleep Walk to date.

The Hospice’s fourth annual Sleep Walk took place last night, Saturday 26 July.

Ladies were asked to raise sponsorship for walking either a five or ten mile route, both of which took in some key sites along Torquay and Paignton seafronts.

Sarah Morris, Rowcroft Hospice at Home and Inpatient Unit Manager, said: “Thank you to everyone who supported this year’s Sleep Walk, and helped to raise such a fantastic amount for Rowcroft. The funds raised will help us to continue to deliver the specialist care we provide for over 1800 patients living with life-limiting illnesses in South Devon every year, as well as their families, friends, carers and loved ones.

“Whether we’re caring for patients in the hospice’s 17-bed Inpatient Unit, or closer to patients’ own homes via our Community team and Hospice at Home services, we are dedicated to taking care further for the people of South Devon. Thank you once again for your support, I can’t tell you how much it means to us.”

Rowcroft’s Sleep Walk launched in 2011 and since then has raised over £500,000 for the hospice.

This year’s carnival-themed walk proved particularly popular, with over 2000 places selling out within a matter of weeks.

Jess Goodwin, Events Co-ordinator at Rowcroft Hospice said: “We are absolutely thrilled with the level of support we have received for this year’s Sleep Walk and would like to thank everyone who was part of our incredible fiesta-filled night!”

So Street Dance kicked off the Rio-inspired Sleep Walk at the Riviera International Conference Centre with a carnival-themed warm up, as stilt walkers and face painters waved walkers on their way.

A host of local and national companies also supported the event by providing equipment and donated gifts.

Jess added: “We would like to thank all the companies and businesses who have supported our biggest ever Sleep Walk, as well as our army of volunteers who were amazing on the night! We couldn’t have done it without you!”
