Rowcroft Occupational Therapist prepares to tackle cycle challenge

18 April 2016

An Occupational Therapist at Rowcroft is preparing to take on a 100km cycle challenge to raise funds for the hospice.

Sarah Reynolds from Newton Abbot is taking on the London Nightrider in June alongside her husband and friends to celebrate her 50th birthday.

Sarah said: “I cycle to work and cycle with my husband and a group of friends socially.

“Two friends had signed up for Nightrider, and persuaded us to sign up for a 50th birthday celebration!”

The London Nightrider takes place on 4th June and will see 2500 cyclists from across the UK tackle their choice of 100km or 60km routes.

Cyclists must set off for their choice of route at 11pm, riding past some of the capital’s most iconic landmarks through the night.

Sarah said: “I am looking forward to seeing London from a different perspective and completing the challenge, but I’m also nervous about being awake all through the night, I like my bed!”

Sarah is raising sponsorship for Rowcroft by taking part in the event. She added: “As an occupational therapist, I explore with patients how they can engage in occupations that have meaning to them.

“I’m raising funds for Rowcroft because every day I witness first-hand how well our work and the people here support not just those with life-limiting illnesses, but their loved ones too.”

Rowcroft has a number of charity places available for the London Nightrider, giving cyclists the opportunity to take part in the event for free, in return for them raising sponsorship for the hospice.

For the first time this year, the hospice also has charity places available for the Bristol Nightrider, also taking place in June.

Community Fundraising Manager, Hayley Norrish, explains: “Rowcroft’s London and Bristol Nightrider events are an amazing opportunity for South Devon cyclists to take on a unique challenge for Rowcroft and help to support thousands of local families living with life-limiting illnesses.”
