Rowcroft Hospice is inviting people in
Christmas can be a difficult time of year for those who have lost loved ones, but Rowcroft’s annual Light up a Life appeal gives everyone the chance to reflect on cherished memories, even if they haven’t been touched by the hospice’s care.
Rowcroft’s Sister Sue Harvey explains: “Christmas is a very special time of year but can also be a very emotional and difficult time for many people, especially those who have lost someone they love, no matter how recently, or long ago that was.
“Our Light up a Life appeal gives people the chance to remember those who are no longer with us, but who are still very dear to them, whether they were cared for at the hospice, or elsewhere.”
The appeal offers a unique opportunity to dedicate a light on Rowcroft’s Tree of Light, nestled within the grounds of the hospice in Avenue Road, Torquay, or to remember them in the hospice’s Books of Light, which can be found in a number of locations across
People across South Devon are also invited to attend eight special Light up a Life celebrations, including at St Michael’s Church in Teignmouth on Saturday 6 December at 3pm, Avenue Methodist Church in Newton Abbot on Tuesday 9 December at 6.30pm, St Mary’s Church in Totnes with Perring Funeral Services on Thursday 11 December at 7pm, and two services at Rowcroft Hospice at 4pm and 5.30pm on Sunday 14 December.
Of the two services taking place at Rowcroft Hospice, the 4pm service will be particularly suited to families with children, and will include a lantern making workshop prior to the service, at 3pm.
All of the celebrations will include readings, the lighting of candles, the special blessing of Rowcroft’s Books of Light, and chance to find comfort in remembering a loved one.
Rowcroft’s Light up a Life Co-ordinator, Daniela Hopkins, adds: “Rowcroft’s very special Light up a Life appeal is a chance to remember and share happy memories, but also to support us in continuing to provide care for more than 1800 people living with life-limiting illnesses in South Devon every year. With your help, we can ensure our care is accessible to families in your local community in the future, at their time of need.”
