Polar explorer supports Rowcroft's latest fundraising challenge

29 September 2014

Polar explorer Antony Jinman is encouraging people across South Devon to sign up for Rowcroft’s latest extreme fundraising challenge, a trek to Everest Base Camp.

Jinman became the 12th Briton to ski to both the geographic North and South Poles earlier this year, and plans to scale Mount Everest in spring 2015.

He will take on his Everest challenge only months before Rowcroft fundraisers are invited to trek to the Base Camp of the world’s highest peak, in order to raise funds for the hospice.

Jinman said: “Taking on an extreme challenge for charity is an incredible opportunity to support a worthy cause, at the same time as having a truly once in a lifetime experience. I am delighted to be encouraging people to sign up for Rowcroft’s latest challenge venture, trekking to the Everest Base Camp.”

The trek is just one of a series of challenge events organised by Rowcroft Hospice for 2015 and 2016, including Skydives and bike rides from London to Paris.

Heather Norman-Soderlind, Community Fundraising Manager for Rowcroft Hospice, explained: “Our catalogue of extreme challenges gives fundraisers the chance to push themselves to their physical and mental limits, while helping to support the care we provide for more than 1800 people living with life-limiting illnesses across South Devon every year.”

Rowcroft is hosting an evening at Pierpoint Bar and Restaurant in Torquay at 6.30pm on Monday 13 October to reveal more about its challenges, and offer tips on how to fundraise.

Antony Jinman will also be present at the evening, to regale those who attend with tales of his adventures.

Heather added: "We are delighted that Antony will be joining staff and supporters of Rowcroft Hospice at Pierpoint Bar and Restaurant on 13 October. We encourage all those interested in undertaking an incredible challenge for Rowcroft in 2015 to join us for the evening."
