28 January 2015
More than 600 ladies have already signed up to take part in Rowcroft Hospice’s Wild West-themed Sleep Walk, within a week of registration officially opening.
This year the hospice’s annual ladies-only night walk is starting from Torbay Leisure Centre on Saturday 11 July and features a brand new five and ten mile route, as well as rip roarin’ new theme.
All those who register online before 31st March will receive an exclusive discount, securing their place for only £12 when using the discount code ROWCROFT15.
The hospice is encouraging all those who want to saddle up for South Devon’s biggest ladies-only night walk to register as soon as possible.
Jess Goodwin, Events Co-ordinator at Rowcroft Hospice, said: “We have 2000 places available for this year’s Sleep Walk so would ask those who want to take part visit www.rowcroftsleepwalk.org.uk to secure their place as soon as possible.
“More than a quarter of our places have already been filled so don’t waste another cotton’ pickin minute – sign up soon to avoid disappointment!”
Elaine Wills, 69, from Torquay is part of the first team to sign up for this year’s Sleep Walk and says she is looking forward to walking with her two daughters and granddaughter.
She said: “This is the third year I’ve taken part in The Sleep Walk, I know several people who have been cared for by Rowcroft so anything that’s a little bit charitable I like to do.
“I’m in my 70th year and think it’s good to challenge myself, I’ve also managed to rope in my children and grandchildren. I like The Sleep Walk because it’s fun, a good atmosphere and an all round nice evening!”
Since it launched four years ago The Sleep Walk has raised an incredible £680,000, helping to support the vital services Rowcroft provides for people living with life-limiting illnesses across South Devon, as well as their loved ones.
Jess said: “More than 70% of our funding comes from the local community so we are extremely grateful to all those who sign up to take part in The Sleep Walk and who dedicate time to raising funds in support of our services across South Devon.”
The event is open to all ladies over ten-years-old and is also supported by hundreds of volunteers, without whom the event could not go ahead.
Jess added: “We couldn’t put on such an important fundraising event without the support of hundreds of volunteers, so would also like to encourage anyone who’d like to volunteer at the most boot stompin’ event of the summer to get in touch!”
