Ladies prepare for Rowcroft's swashbuckling Sleep Walk
29 June 2017
Ladies across South Devon are getting ship-shape for Rowcroft’s swashbuckling, pirate-themed Sleep Walk, which takes place next Saturday 8 July.
More than 1,500 ladies from across South Devon are preparing to take part in the event, which will see them walk their choice of five or ten miles through the night to help raise vital funds for local hospice, Rowcroft.
This year marks the first time ladies as young as eight-years-old have been able to take part in the event, which will see groups of friends, colleagues and generations of families unite in support of Rowcroft.
Daniel Robson, Rowcroft’s Events Manager, says the whole hospice is buzzing with excitement: “Every year we love seeing the community unite to support the thousands of local people living with life-limiting illnesses in South Devon who need our support – and 2017 is no exception!
“We have a brilliant night of fun planned for the ladies taking part in this year’s event, with some pirate-themed surprises and treats as they complete their voyage!”
While walking, the ladies will be supported by hundreds of volunteers who’ve generously donated their time to keep participants well hydrated, safe and on the right track.
Daniel added: “In advance of Saturday we would like to say a huge thank you to all the amazing ladies who are taking part, but also to the hundreds of men and women who will spend hours cheering, waving and ensuring our ladies are safe and supported throughout the night.”
The hospice is hoping this year’s event, which is the seventh organised by Rowcroft since 2011, will raise in the region of £200,000 to support its vital services.
Rowcroft’s Head of Fundraising, Rachael Bryett said: “Following the financial challenges we faced last year, our efforts are now focussed on securing the future of hospice care for the people of South Devon.
“We must continue to increase our existing levels of fundraised income through events like The Rowcroft Sleep Walk. Only then can we begin to rebuild a hospice service that meets all of the local community’s wishes."
Rowcroft has asked that anyone with any queries regarding next week’s event please contact the hospice’s Events Team by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. More information can also be found at www.rowcroftsleepwalk.org.uk.
