Chief Executive of Rowcroft Hospice to step down

20 June 2016

Giles Charnaud is to step down from Rowcroft Hospice at the end of this summer, having led the hospice as its first Chief Executive for the past 14 years.

Over the next few months Giles will be supporting the Board of Trustees and acting CEO to ensure a smooth handover of responsibilities and to introduce the new phase of leadership.

Giles Charnaud said: “I have given extensive and heartfelt consideration to this move and feel that on balance it is within the hospice's longer term best interests for the emerging leaders within the hospice to take the helm, under a new and fresh CEO, to steer the organisation through a phase of development and onto greater success.”

Since joining the charity in 2002, Giles has steered the organisation through significant changes and challenging times.
He added: “I consider my time at Rowcroft to be the best, most enjoyable and fulfilling years of my career to date. I wish to pay homage to the dedication and professionalism of the staff and volunteers at the hospice, with whom it has been a privilege and honour to work. I will be forever grateful to those colleagues who have helped achieve the many successes and to those who have added to my enjoyment of being involved with the fabulous and important work of Rowcroft.”
In the last 10 years Rowcroft has doubled the number of patients and families it cares for and expanded its services to include 24/7 Hospice at Home care. The hospice has recently been rated as outstanding by the Care Quality Commission following an unannounced inspection in January 2016.
Chair of Trustees, Bill Grahamslaw said: “The Trustees would like to thank Giles for the significant developments that have been achieved under his leadership and the courage and sense of the decision to step aside over the forthcoming months to facilitate the implementation and handover to the next generation of hospice leadership. The Trustees would also like to wish Giles well in whatever he chooses to do in the future”
In the interim before a new Chief Executive Officer is appointed. Jon Hill has agreed to lead Rowcroft as Acting Chief Executive Officer in addition to his role as Finance and Commercial Director.
