The Sleep Walk, the biggest walk of its kind in
The £123,000 raised this year will provide vital income for the hospice, to care for patients in the in-patient unit and at home through Rowcroft’s Hospice at Home and community services. The Hospice at Home service is now a major part of the hospice’s work and enables Rowcroft to care for patients in the last days and hours of life in their home. The money raised will enable 76 patients to receive Rowcroft’s Hospice at Home service.
Rowcroft’s Community Team Manager, Jo Pope is delighted at the result: “I have worked for Rowcroft Hospice for over two years and in that time I have both completed the walk and volunteered. My most memorable experience as a volunteer was rewarding the walkers with a well-earned cuppa after the walk; it was particularly humbling to then hear the ladies talk about their motivations for walking and raising money for Rowcroft.”
Plans are already underway for 2014’s Sleep Walk and supporters are encouraged to ‘like’ Rowcroft’s woolly mascot, Barbara The Sheep’s Facebook page for exciting updates and important event announcements.
Jessica Goodwin, Rowcroft’s Events Co-ordinator has said: “We’re making next year’s event the best yet so we hope to see both previous Sleep Walkers and new ladies join our flock in 2014! We’ve lowered the age limit and are excited to announce that next year’s event will be open to walkers aged 10 and above.”
