10 things you didn’t know about the Rowcroft Hospice lottery!

10 September 2014 Posted by Rowcroft Hospice

In 2004 we launched one of the very first hospice lotteries in the South West and in July that year, we had our first prize draw. Ten years on we're still holding the Rowcroft Hospice weekly Lottery, we've gained over 7500 players and are celebrating a newly launched direct debit service on our website.

In celebration of the last ten years, we thought we would let you all in on a few things you may not know about the Rowcroft Lottery!

1 - The first weekly prize draw took place on Friday 16 July 2004 - there have been 528 draws since then.
2 - Since 2004, a total of 17,270 prizes have been won - that's an average of 2.3 wins per person.
3 - You're eight times more likely to win a £1000 prize in the Rowcroft Lottery than the National Lottery - where there is a 1 in 56.7 chance of winning £10.
4 - The biggest prize won by any lottery player is £3000 in a bumper draw.
5 - One in three players have won a prize at least once since joining.
6 - The regular weekly draws take place EVERY Friday, with a guaranteed prize of £1000 and 32 more chances to win a cash prize.
7 - Some lottery players choose to donate their winnings back to the hospice.
8 - If you introduce a friend, you'll receive a £10 Marks & Spencer voucher - introduce more than one friend, and we'll give you more than one voucher!
9 - 80% of lottery members play at least £1 a week directly from their bank account - and you can play up to 3 times a week.
10 - Last year alone the lottery contributed a net total of £255,000 to the hospice - over the past ten years, it has been much more than this.

During the time the lottery has been running, it has contributed a net total of £1.9 million to the hospice, helping to provide vital care to 1800 people living with life-limiting illnesses across South Devon.

Rowcroft Lottery Manager, David Pitt, hopes the new direct debit service on Rowcroft's website will encourage new players to sign up and generate an even greater income for the hospice.

He said: "For the past ten years the lottery has provided a steady and secure income stream for the hospice; last year alone it contributed over £250,000.

"We hope that by launching our new direct debit service, and making it even easier for people to sign up, we will help to generate more money to support our patients, as well as their families, friends, carers and loved ones."

All Rowcroft Lottery players are entered into a weekly draw to win one of 33 prizes, including a guaranteed first prize of £1000, a second rollover jackpot that can be anywhere from £200 - £3000 and a third prize of £100.

David added: "Even if people don't win, we hope they are happy knowing their money is helping to provide care and support for people in our local community."

So why don't you celebrate our 10th anniversary with us and sign up to be in with a chance of winning £1000 this Friday! Or if you'd like to find out more about the Rowcroft Lottery, visit www.rowcrofthospice.org.uk/lottery.
