Meet our volunteers

Pat has volunteered at the newest Rowcroft shop in Reddenhill Rd, Torquay since it opened in December 2005.

'I decided to volunteer after two friends were cared for at the hospice, as a way of giving something back. I'm interested in music and books and this makes volunteering in the shop especially enjoyable, as does seeing the many regular customers that come into the shop.’

John has volunteered since December 2005, working on the main hospice reception and ward reception. John’s wife had hoped to come to Rowcroft, but sadly she died before this was possible.

‘I find particularly because of my experience, volunteering in the hospice is very rewarding. Working on two of the hospice’s receptions is very enjoyable as I see and can help a large number of visitors every day.’

Joy has volunteered for over 20 years, working on the ward.

‘I initially decided to volunteer at Rowcroft, after a close friend suddenly died, rather leaving a void. It’s a pleasure to work at Rowcroft; it’s a lovely place and very worthwhile. I have made many friends and will continue working here for as long as I can.’

Sophie, is one of Rowcroft’s youngest volunteers, and volunteers on the ward at weekends.

‘I chose to volunteer at Rowcroft because I hope to study medicine at university. After a week’s placement, I’m now volunteering on the ward at weekends, and am really enjoying it.’
